Jack stared out across to the soft, pink and orange painted horizon, his eyes fixed on a barely visible dot. He took no notice of the small white clouds that seemed to be on fire from the rising sun, nor did he take notice of the dolphins swimming and jumping alongside the ship’s bow. His attention was wholly focused on that one little speck in the distance, and he could not bear to tear himself away to find his spyglass.
He did hear, however, the quiet boot steps coming towards him.
